De werkvorm ziet er als volgt uit:
- zoek op internet naar een schilderij dat een componist heeft geïnspireerd om muziek bij te schrijven.
- geef voor de groep een toelichting.
- zoek daarna zelf ook een schilderij en schrijf daar je eigen compositie bij.
De gekozen werkvorm combineert twee klassieke elementen uit de muziektheorie:1) analyse/vormleer en 2) harmonieleer/contrapunt
In het verleden werden deze vakken meestal door verschillende docenten tijdens afzonderlijke lessen gegeven. Het resultaat hiervan is dat studenten het ook als zelfstandige vakken gaan zien. Het lesmateriaal wordt ‘lekker makkelijk’ verzameld in kleurrijke HEMA-mapjes. Deze werkvorm zorgt voor ‘ontschotting’. De disciplines worden bij elkaar gebracht. En en passant oefent de student zich in presenteren, doceren en concerteren.
EVALUATIE en FEEDBACK van OPDRACHT 1
Een van de boeiende uitkomsten van deze opdracht is, dat de studenten schilderijen kiezen waar ze een persoonlijke band mee hebben.
June (Thailand, hoofdvak fluit) kiest een pentekening (zie link 1) van haar ouderlijk huis, op palen, met veel water. Ze vertelt over het leven in Thailand. Vervolgens speelt ze een door haar gecomponeerd stuk dat is gebaseerd op de traditionele muziek van haar land. Na haar performance geeft ze een toelichting over het maakproces en theoretische achtergrondinformatie over pentatonische invloeden in haar muziek. Een mooi voorbeeld hoe creativiteit en theorie hand in hand kunnen gaan. Theorie dienstbaar aan de speler als maker.

what is your general opinion about the assignment?
I think the assignment is very interesting and challenging. When I first heard that we have to do this assignment I felt quite scared but after I started working on it, it was very fun.
what did you learn from it?
I learn to create something according to my own perspective and trying to also fit in others creations. Also how we can make the music more interesting and at the same time fit in the theme that we chose.
how was the feedback (from the teacher and the other students)?
The feedback was much better than what I was expected. They can feel what I want to show and delivered. I got tips to make the compositionmore interesting also which was very nice.
give also short introduction about your painting choice
I came from the different part of the world and also totally different culture so for me I want to introduce Thai painting style and the story. The painting is about the life near the river in the old times. In Thailand we used to live near the river or canal with the high wooden house with the free space underneath the house which allows the water to flow through. The painting also shows the lifestyle of Thai living in the past, we usually live together as a big family and we usually do things together for example having meals and so on.

I composed this piece for the Thai painting in Thai classical music style which contains folk melody and pentatonic also the form of composition is according to the Thai classical music style (slow-moderate-fast) as a solo piece for flute.
